Is It Your First Day At The New Job?

admin

So you are among the chosen few who have finally landed that dream job. Naukriforwomen brings to you a list of things that you should remember before you take on the responsibilities that your new job entails.

1. Reach your place of work well in time - This is one of the most important things you could do. Since it is your first day, make it a point to be there at least 30 minutes in advance. Leave your home such that you reach your place of work 30 minute before the official start time.

2. Maintain a cheerful disposition - Greet everybody cheerfully and maintain enthusiasm in your voice.

3. Dress up professionally - Remember to wear neutral colours. Loud colours are not appreciated at a professional work place unless you are working in a movie. Remember that your clothes should be well ironed and neat.

4. Carry a diary - This is important so that you can jot down notes when you are being taken from department to department for introductions. Make points of the different functions of each department and their ways of functioning.

5. Know your deliverables - This may not happen on the first day. But as you begin to get settled in, say a week, go to your boss and have a small chat with her. Ask her for your Key Performance Areas or KPAs as they are popularly called. Strive to deliver on your KPAs.

6. Try to make friends - Mix around with people and colleagues. Walk up to desks of people who you have not been introduced to. Introduce yourself politely and without interrupting their work. Be polite with them. However do remember that you have informed your immediate boss or your HR manager before you do this activity since at times it may be construed that you are being too smart for your boots.

7. Finish the joining formalities immediately - Do not postpone this activity. Be ready with what you are required to hand over so as to finish your joining formalities without much ado. This is an important activity and you should try to get it off your back as soon as possible.

8. Respect the office decorum - Blend in with the environment. Talk to people in a professional way and smile a lot.

We are sure if you do the above things, your initial days at your workplace will be a breeze. Enjoy!!!
